Most Adults are Missing Teeth

Losing teeth as an adult isn’t as uncommon as you think. According to the American Dental Association, the average adult between the ages of 20 and 64 has three or more decayed or missing teeth. And the Centers for Disease Control reported in 2011 that a quarter of Americans 65 and older were missing all of their teeth.

And while we’re quite sure Houston patients won’t like the look of their smiles quite as much with missing teeth, that isn’t the biggest reason why they should come see Dr. Dassani to get it fixed.

Gaps left in your smile can cause your remaining teeth to drift and change your bite, making your jaw sore and possibly causing excessive wear to your other teeth. And because more of your gums are exposed when your teeth shift, you could be at higher risk for gum disease because there are more places for plaque to build.

Fortunately, you have a few choices of how to fix this problem. You can get an implant, or you could opt for a dental bridge. Dental bridges range from fixed bridges to cantilever bridges and resin-bonded bridges. Your dentist will determine the kind of bridge based on your needs and condition.
